This year’s FKF National Division one league will now kick off under a new format, this was endorsed by
All clubs taking part in the two zone league during a clubs meeting with the Federation at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.
Due to budgetary constrains facing the clubs it was resolved that the 20 club league be split into two groups of 10 teams each
With the possibility of promoting two more teams to arrive at a 12 club league.
Zone’ A’ will comprise clubs from Nairobi, Aberdares, Mt Kenya and the other group will consist of Eastern and South Coast and North Coast Clubs.
Zone’ B’South Rift, Central Rift,Nyanza South, and the other group will be North Rift, Western, Nyanza North.
The winners of their respective zones will play each other on a home and away basis to determine who qualifies for the Premier League
Next Season.
According to the FKF National Chairman Sam Nyamweya the new format will enable teams to compete in the league with an affordable budget
Since most clubs are community based We are happy to inform the clubs that we have already got a sponsor for the league who has injected a small sponsorship package, so clubs will now not bear the burden of paying referees he added.
Our vision is to spread the game to all counties in the country and that is why clubs from as far as Meru , and Malindi have been included in the second tier league.
The meeting attended by the clubs Chairmen ,lauded the federation for ensuring that last year’s league was ran professionally which saw the promotion of Bandari and Kakamega Homeboyz into top flight football
However this years league will kick off late in March after the National General Elections.
